Helpful tips for designing your home heating

• Always plan well in advance, it’s never too early to start looking for ideas.The earlier you plan the more options you have.
• Chimneys & flue are very important at the building stage as correct flue design will ensure correct performance. Always seek advise as many products have different flue requirements while other need no flue at all. Always plan with a chimney in mind as this gives you the flexibility of using any fuel type. Leave a larger opening as this will allow you to go for a stove or fire. If no chimney exists our best advice is to bring the plans early so we can advise you on what will be required. We can never under estimate the importance of a good Flue or Chimney Design.
• The design for inserts is critical as the correct size of opening will ensure that there is no need to alter the opening at a later date. Also some of these inserts can take hot air vents into the same room or other rooms so adequate accommodation is required for these.
• Always leave an oil and ½” gas supply at your chimney as this will allow you to change your mind in future without the hassle of ripping up floors. ½” Line will ensure correct pressure.
• Always leave an electrical source as some appliances require electricity to work
• Insulate your home well as this is probably the simplest way of keeping your home warm. As with many new well insulated home the appliance must have the facility to take air from outside, we have a selection of products that meet this criteria.
• When choosing your heating system take into account the house size, hot water requirements, and lifestyle. As many different heating systems suit different needs.


• If choosing oil/gas boiler it is a must to use a condensing boiler due to there increased efficiency.
• When choosing an appliance take into account the room size, noting high ceilings and open areas, What fuel will suit you best and any other heating system i.e. Rads or underfloor.
• If choosing to heat water from stove or range locate your hot water cylinder as close as possible also advise us if solar panels will be used.
• Always look at the various running costs as some appliances may look nice but can be expensive to run, especially some gas products
